WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes recently shared her thoughts on the Rookie of the Year debate, emphasizing that Angel Reese deserves more recognition than Caitlin Clark. On the “Gil’s Arena” podcast, Swoopes praised Reese’s performance, highlighting her impressive averages of 13.6 points and a league-leading 13.1 rebounds per game. Despite being drafted seventh overall, Reese’s ability to dominate both offensively and defensively has set her apart in her rookie season.

Swoopes pointed out that while Clark, the No. 1 overall pick, has also had an outstanding season—averaging 19.5 points and leading all rookies in scoring—she entered the league with higher expectations. Swoopes believes Reese’s achievements, especially considering her draft position, demonstrate remarkable growth and potential.

Reese’s season was unfortunately cut short due to a wrist injury, but her impact on the Chicago Sky was undeniable. Meanwhile, Clark has helped the Indiana Fever secure a playoff spot for the first time since 2016, solidifying her role as a key player. Nonetheless, Swoopes stands by her view that Reese’s contributions have been equally, if not more, significant, making the Rookie of the Year debate an intriguing one.
