Tom Selleck recently shared a memorable story about working with Frank Sinatra on Magnum P.I. during an event with his Blue Bloods co-star Bridget Moynahan.

Selleck first learned of Sinatra’s interest in guest-starring from Larry Manetti, who played Rick Wright on the show. Manetti informed Selleck that Sinatra wanted to be asked to join the cast.

Gathering his courage, Selleck made the call to Sinatra, unsure of what to say. Sinatra expressed his desire to appear, emphasizing that they would need to write a role specifically for him.

When Selleck asked Sinatra what he wanted to do, Sinatra replied he just wanted to “beat somebody up.” This eagerness showcased Sinatra’s playful side.

Sinatra offered to do the guest spot for free, requesting only that his expenses be covered. The production team was thrilled, but they soon learned that his expenses amounted to $250,000.

The episode featuring Sinatra aired in 1987 and marked one of his last acting roles before his passing in 1998.

In this episode, titled “Laura,” Sinatra portrayed a New York City cop seeking vengeance for his granddaughter’s murder.

Magnum, played by Selleck, is hired to track down the culprits but soon discovers Sinatra’s character is out for revenge.

Sinatra’s character confronts one of the murderers in a dramatic scene, delivering a powerful monologue before unleashing his wrath.

The portrayal not only fulfilled Sinatra’s wish to display some tough guy action but also left a lasting impression on viewers.

For those interested, Sinatra’s guest appearance can be revisited, as the episode is available for free on The Roku Channel.

Ultimately, Selleck’s experience working with the legendary entertainer remains a highlight of his career.
