Is there VAR in the Championship playoff final at Wembley? Here’s what you need to know.

SAINTS have played 48 Championship matches this season without the added challenge of VAR.

However, the EFL has announced updates concerning the playoff finals for the Championship, League One, and League Two.

All three finals, taking place at Wembley Stadium, will utilize VAR this month.

VAR was already in use during Saturday’s League One final, where Oxford United defeated Bolton Wanderers 2-0.

This decision means that VAR, which was not used in 552 Championship matches, will be implemented when Saints face Leeds United.

The match, determining which team will secure a spot in the Premier League, will be held on Sunday, May 26.

The EFL has confirmed that the game will start at 3pm, following Leeds’ 4-0 victory over Norwich City and Saints’ 3-1 win against West Brom.

Despite being arguably the biggest league in the world without VAR, Championship referees made the correct call in over 85 percent of key decisions this season, according to an independent panel.

The Premier League has noted that with the use of VAR, 96 percent of key match decisions were correct this season.

The Premier League is scheduled to vote on whether to keep or scrap VAR after Wolves submitted a motion seeking input from the league’s members.

The EFL will soon announce the referee and VAR appointments, along with the confirmation of the kits the two teams will wear.
