New York Mets star Francisco Lindor has been sidelined since September 15 due to back discomfort, but he is close to making his return. Initially, the team estimated he would need three to five days for recovery after an MRI, but his comeback has taken a bit longer than expected.

Lindor nearly rejoined the lineup on Tuesday during the Mets’ 5-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Although he was not officially in the starting lineup, he was ready to pinch-hit and was on deck when the game concluded.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza indicated that Lindor is a strong candidate to return for Wednesday’s game against the Braves, provided weather conditions permit. “Let’s see how he feels tomorrow. He could be in play,” Mendoza remarked.

Lindor was active during the game, participating in hitting drills and moving around well, indicating his eagerness to return. He expressed readiness to step up for an at-bat if the opportunity arose.

Before Tuesday’s game, Lindor completed a full workout without any reported issues. Mendoza noted, “He’s going to continue to push it again and will let me know if he’s available for today.”

The Mets are in a crucial position as they strive for playoff contention, making Lindor’s return even more vital. His season statistics are impressive, boasting a .271 batting average, 31 home runs, 86 RBIs, and 103 runs scored, along with solid defense at shortstop.

Lindor’s presence in the lineup would significantly bolster the team’s chances in a critical game. The Mets are hopeful he can contribute as they navigate a challenging stretch of the season.

With Lindor potentially back in action, the team is looking to regain momentum against the Braves. His ability to perform at a high level will be crucial for the Mets as they aim for success in the final weeks of the regular season.
