The New York Yankees are making waves with a potential blockbuster trade that would bring shortstop Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins to the Bronx. The trade proposal, reported by Fireside Yankees of Empire Sports Media, would send infielder George Lombard Jr. (the Yankees’ No. 3 prospect), right-handed pitchers Chase Hampton (No. 6 prospect) and Ian Hamilton, and catcher/first baseman Rafael Flores to the Twins in exchange for Correa.
The Yankees, who have already strengthened their roster with notable additions such as Max Fried, Devin Williams, Paul Goldschmidt, and Cody Bellinger, are looking to further solidify their infield by acquiring Correa. His impressive all-around hitting and elite defensive abilities make him a standout. The proposal suggests moving Correa to third base, which could help keep him healthier, as shortstop is particularly demanding on a player’s lower body. This move would also allow Jazz Chisholm Jr. to take over second base, addressing the Yankees’ infield concerns.
Correa, who signed a six-year, $200 million contract with the Twins in 2023, remains under contract with Minnesota through 2029-2032. While Twins president Derek Falvey and general manager Jeremy Zoll have expressed they aren’t actively shopping players like Correa, they have indicated they are open to trade discussions, citing their flexibility in exploring creative deals.
For the Yankees, acquiring Correa would come at the cost of two top-10 prospects, but they would gain one of baseball’s elite talents. A three-time All-Star and Platinum Glove winner, Correa would significantly improve the Yankees’ roster. However, his past involvement in the 2017 Astros cheating scandal might stir mixed feelings among Yankees fans, given the history between the two teams and Correa’s controversial role in the event.
