In the wake of the New England Patriots’ disappointing loss to the New York Jets, quarterback Jacoby Brissett faced questions about his future as the starter. The game marked the first appearance of rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who took over for Brissett with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Brissett struggled during the game, completing 12 of 18 passes for only 98 yards, while Maye managed to record 22 rushing yards and was sacked twice, ending with just 12 passing yards. Head coach Jerod Mayo acknowledged Maye’s performance and hinted at the possibility of a quarterback change. “I thought it was a good opportunity for him to go out there and move the ball. We’ll evaluate everything after watching the film,” Mayo said. He added that competition for the starting job is a constant reality.
When asked about Mayo’s comments, Brissett chose not to comment directly. “I’m not going to respond to something I didn’t hear. My job is to prepare and put good football on tape,” he stated. The Patriots are now 1-2 and will head to the West Coast to face the San Francisco 49ers next week.
