The New York Giants are facing an uphill battle this season, currently sitting at 0-2, despite a strong rushing attack. With the NFL trade deadline approaching in early November, there’s speculation that the Giants could consider trading players to build for the future.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano recently identified running back Devin Singletary as a potential trade candidate. He noted that Singletary, who previously played for Giants head coach Brian Daboll in Buffalo, has been performing well in New York, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. However, if the team continues to struggle and rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. shows promise, the Giants might entertain offers for Singletary.
Graziano pointed to the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, and Las Vegas Raiders as possible suitors for Singletary. Nonetheless, trading him would complicate the Giants’ offense, which is already inconsistent.
While the Giants have younger backs like Eric Gray and Tracy Jr., neither has proven they can handle a significant workload for the rest of the season. So far, Singletary has rushed for 132 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries, boasting impressive statistics, including a 46.2% avoided tackle rate.
Given Singletary’s affordable three-year, $16.5 million contract, parting with him would likely yield only a mid-round draft pick in return—hardly a compelling reason to trade one of their top performers. Therefore, it seems wise for the Giants to keep Singletary through this season.
