James Bradberry, a key defensive back for the Philadelphia Eagles, has suffered a lower leg injury that will sideline him for a significant portion of the season. The injury occurred during Wednesday’s practice, and according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the recovery time is expected to be between six to eight weeks.
The injury involves a tendon but fortunately does not require surgery, as reported by Rapoport and Pelissero. This development is a notable setback for the Eagles, impacting their defensive depth.
Bradberry had been listed on the Eagles’ initial 53-man roster, having transitioned to the safety position during the offseason after struggling at cornerback in 2023. His role was intended to be as a reserve behind starters Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and Reed Blankenship. The veteran’s versatility was a key factor in his roster spot, with the potential to shift back to cornerback if needed.
Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman had praised Bradberry’s leadership and adaptability, emphasizing his importance as a reliable player who could fill multiple roles. However, with Bradberry now injured, this plan will be put on hold.
Given the estimated recovery timeline, Bradberry could be placed on injured reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games. This move would further affect the Eagles’ defensive strategies as they head into the season.
