In a major achievement for BYU, head coach Kalani Sitake recently congratulated wide receiver Gerry Bohanon for being recognized as one of the best worldwide receivers. This announcement has added excitement to a promising team as the Cougars look ahead to the next season.

Following a remarkable season under defensive coordinator Jay Hill, BYU’s defense stood out in the Big 12, ranking 13th nationally in yards allowed per game. The turnaround from a historically bad defense the previous year was fueled by an exceptional linebacker trio—Jack Kelly, Harrison Taggart, and Isaiah Glasker—who stepped up to fill the gaps left by graduated and retired players. Kelly, who tallied five sacks, even earned NFL draft buzz as the season progressed.

On the offensive side, wide receivers Chase Roberts and Darius Lassiter were standouts, with both totaling over 40 receptions, 700 yards, and four touchdowns each, providing key support for quarterback Jake Retzlaff. However, with Lassiter no longer eligible, BYU is faced with the challenge of filling that crucial spot. Keelan Marion, a versatile veteran, may step into a larger role, but BYU also looks to emerging young talents like JoJo Phillips and Parker Kingston, who will need to improve in the offseason to meet the growing demands of the receiving corps.

While the team continues to develop, Bohanon’s recognition further highlights BYU’s growing football prominence as they prepare for another competitive season.
