The New York Knicks are actively seeking to bolster their roster with another center, given their current lack of depth behind Mitchell Robinson. According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks recently extended an offer to Omer Yurtseven, a former center for the Utah Jazz.

Begley noted, “The Knicks made an offer to Omer, but it wasn’t one he was likely to consider seriously.”

Additionally, NBA insider Marc Stein revealed that the Knicks conducted a workout with Yurtseven in early July. The Turkish seven-footer, who has played three NBA seasons, holds career averages of 5.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

The Knicks face a challenge in their second unit, as Precious Achiuwa, standing at 6’8”, is projected to be the backup center. Julius Randle, also 6’8”, might share this role, though his primary position is forward. Unless Jericho Sims can provide significant backup minutes, the Knicks will need to explore additional options on the market.

Yurtseven is among several players the Knicks have considered for the center position, alongside Utah’s Walker Kessler and Houston’s Alperen Sengun, though no deals have been finalized with these players.

If the Knicks are unable to secure Yurtseven, it remains uncertain whether they will continue their search for a center or rely on their current roster. As training camp approaches in about a month, the team will need to devise a strategy for the backup center role. The Knicks’ approach to this position will become clearer as the season draws nearer.
