The New York Mets made two new signings on Monday, adding infield depth and bullpen support. They signed Jared Young, a 29-year-old infielder, to a major league deal. Young last appeared in MLB in 2023 with the Chicago Cubs and most recently played in South Korea’s KBO. Additionally, the Mets signed Brandon Waddell, a left-handed reliever, to a one-year major league contract. Waddell, who has spent the last three seasons with the Doosan Bears in the KBO, last pitched in MLB in 2021.

These moves come after the Mets made headlines by signing Juan Soto earlier in the offseason, signaling a potential shift in their approach—though they may take a more cautious route with future signings. In other Mets news, Luisangel Acuña is putting up strong numbers in the Venezuelan Winter League, and Marc Levine, the Mets’ team photographer, will be posthumously inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025.

Elsewhere in MLB, teams are active in trade talks and free agency, with the Cubs reportedly pursuing a trade for Marlins pitcher Jesús Luzardo and the Giants emerging as a favorite to land Corbin Burnes. The Blue Jays also made a minor league signing, adding catcher Ali Sanchez to their roster.
