The Cape Breton Eagles have made a significant move in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) by acquiring veteran centre Joseph Henneberry from the Victoriaville Tigres. In exchange, winger Olivier Houde will be heading to Victoriaville.

Eagles general manager Sylvain Couturier expressed his enthusiasm for Henneberry, noting that he brings the skills of a top-line centre to the team. With the Eagles struggling at the start of the 2024-25 season, having lost their first six games and sitting at the bottom of the Maritimes Division with just one point, Couturier felt it was essential to shake things up.

“We needed a centreman,” he said. “As a GM, my hands were tied since we can only move overage and European players at this point in the season. I thought it was the right time to make a change.”

Couturier is optimistic that Henneberry’s addition will bolster the team’s offense and help turn their season around. He emphasized the importance of taking proactive steps rather than waiting for a turnaround to happen on its own.

This trade marks a new chapter for both players, as Henneberry aims to make an immediate impact in Cape Breton, while Houde will seek new opportunities with the Tigres. Fans are eager to see how this move will influence the Eagles’ performance moving forward.
